Mote Marine Labratories

Mote Marine needed a larger tank for their turtles as they grew. The Aquatic Exhibit Group created a free form tank complete with coral feature and color gradated walls. An oversized, curved acrylic viewing panel was used for the immersion experience.
After assessing the existing space and discussing the options with Mote, we created a scale model based on their input. We continued to refine the model on-site as all the features came into focus. Once the model reflected Mote's vision for the project, construction began.

The main 30,000 gallon tank uses a non-rectangular layout to allow the turtles greater freedom when swimming. It was constructed on-site due to it's size and a medical examination pool was added to make it easy to inspect the turtles.

The first resident, a blind turtle named Hang Tough, was moved in shortly after completion. Hang Tough was rescued by Mote and had out grown their old tank. He's much and is much happier with all his new space. Hang Tough and all his friends can be found at www.mote.org/.
